The George Street Area

George Street

1922 -- 1925.

George Street

(c.1922) In the main part of New Arley workmen were engaged to enlarge the mining village. The area was developed to be occupied by the large numbers of miners coming to Arley in the twenties from Durham, Staffordshire, Wales and Brown Hills, as well as from Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Arley's population doubled between 1921 and 1928 due to the influx of miners and their families.

George Street

(c. 1950's)

The Ransom Family

All of the roads in this area (George Street, Frederick Road, Charles Street, James Street, Ransom Road) are named after the Ransom family as Mr Ransom financed the construction of most of the miners housing in this area of Arley.
